Soteria: A Fragrance with Purpose – Supporting Mental Health in Palestine

As a new brand, we were told to avoid politics. To keep things light. But for me, it’s not about politics—it’s about humanity.

When I founded No Common Scents, I wanted to create something that not only filled homes with beautiful fragrances but also stood for something. Injustice isn’t something we can ignore, especially when it’s happening just hours away from us here in the UAE.

That’s why we’re proud to announce that 20% of the sale price (not the profit—the full sale price) of every product in our Soteria fragrance range is donated to Hakini, a Palestinian mental health charity.

Why Soteria?

Soteria is named after the ancient spirit of preservation and protection from harm—a fitting name for a fragrance that represents our small business’s commitment to making a difference.

The scent itself is calming and uplifting:

• Top Notes: Soft peaches
• Heart Notes: Citrus blossom and sweet basil
• Base Notes: Cypress oils, clove, and nutmeg

We wanted something light, grounding, and soothing—a fragrance designed to bring a sense of peace, not just to your space but to those who need it most.

Why Hakini?

After extensive research, we chose to partner with Hakini, an Arabic-language mental health organization that provides psychological first aid to those in Gaza and throughout Palestine.

In times of unimaginable hardship, mental health care is a lifeline. Hakini’s work supports the emotional well-being of people on the ground, offering tools for resilience and healing in the face of trauma.

Why It Matters

We thought deeply about how we could contribute meaningfully. It didn’t feel right to create a “themed” fragrance with a watermelon sticker or a flag slapped on a jar. This isn’t about marketing; it’s about real people, real lives, and real pain.

Home is something many of us take for granted, but for so many, it’s a painful memory or something they’ve lost. We hope Soteria honors that reality with the care and respect it deserves.
